I'm slowly starting to share more images from my multi-year project "This Land Remembers", an odyssey into the last remaining ancient native woodlands of Scotland (like this one from a brilliant Autumn morning in 2025). Samhain [sow-wen]: the ancient Celtic festival that marks the end of summer and the beginning of winter — the moment when Beira the Cailleach, Queen of Winter, regains control over the landscape from the Queen of Summer, Brigid. It also marks the moment when the veil between the living and the dead is at its thinnest and the origins of Halloween. Mountain spirits come to the fore at this time of year.

Happy #WorldPhotographyDay !

This is one of my favourite images from last autumn in Scotland's Ancient Caledonian Forest. In the dark of morning, I hiked up this pathless steep sided hill to gain a view over the magnificent glen beyond and was treated to an exceptional sunrise. Amazing to see all these regenerating pine saplings growing on the higher slopes.
