:boost_requested: Pitching a new federation protocol

polyproto is an up-and-coming federation protocol with features like lossless account migration, resilience against loss of identity because of homeserver shutdown and tamper-resistant data exchange inherent to how it works under the hood.

The best part is that it doesn't re-invent the wheel, and builds on extremely well-known and widely used technologies such as X.509 (the technology powering all the SSL/TLS certificatesβ€”the thingies responsible for the padlock
πŸ”’πŸ”’ symbol in your browser), regular ol' digital signature schemes, JSON, HTTP and Websockets.

If you are so inclined, feel free to find out more at
https://polyproto.org or feel free to https://polyproto.org/docs/protocols/core (which I have tried my best to write in a way that doesn't induce a deep sleep on the reader).

The project wants to eventually yield a federated, self-hosted Discord alternative *usable by everyone, not just computer nerds*, and hosts it's source code at
https://codeberg.org/polyphony . It is not currently in any usable or demoable state, sadly, but that is being worked on.

I really wish the Internet Archive could stop lying in their HTTP User-Agent headers. To be specific, I wish they could stop claiming to be either ancient versions of browsers or modern versions of browsers that are different from the browser engines they're actually using. It's hurting their ability to, you know, archive stuff, because these days such mismatches look a lot like bad crawlers.

i swear there are games with names like "Splongo Pliko" that contain the most heartfelt story ever told through the medium of videogames with incredible gameplay that all AAA companies have been trying to achieve for decades but never could, and it was all made by a single person between break times

Quick PSAβ€―: yes, #Mozilla has been disappointing, but so far, they’re the only organization preventing Google to have a full control over web standards. Blink/WebKit-based browsers (Chromium, Vivaldi…) do NOT help at all in that regard.

So please use
#Firefox or a #Gecko-based alternative (#ZenBrowser, #LibreWolf…). Ride the nightly release train and report bugs if you can. #Servo is getting ready, but for the next ~5 years, Gecko is our only suitable option.

i added the pointer warping thing from blender to when you drag the view around in niri with the mouse

hf with this new way to pass time during boring meetings

(on a more serious note this helps when you need to scroll further than the edge of your monitor allows)

also unrelated: merged optional config includes earlier today
