Milan, 2015. I was visiting the Exposition Internationale with some friends, and we approached the Swiss pavilion.
Switzerland's pavilion's theme was sustainability and careful exploitation of natural and finite resources.
They had built a huge tower, filled with candies, dried fruits, and silly gadgets, and they intended to let visitors take whatever they wanted for free, reminding them that the amount of resources was finite, so they had to self-pace.
No need to say, people hoarded all kind of gadgets and dried candies, so, some weeks after the opening, organizers had to shut parts of the tower, and decided to open them gradually, otherwise, in just a few weeks, there would have been nothing left for the late visitors, just empty rooms. When we visited, I took a silly apple-shaped pin (apparently), and put it in the smallest and most hidden internal pocket of my jeans, and forgot it there. Today, I found it. I din't even remember that I had it. I guess that taking a pin and keep it for ten years in your pocket, while letting it rust, is a clear sign that I understand nothing about preserving finite resources of our planet.

Believe it or not, I’m still figuring out where HTML got its angle brackets.

But despite grabbing a lot of interlibrary items, I am not sure I’m getting any closer. I still have some ideas, but one involves going to a museum in Maine, which might take a while.

However, good news (for someone?): There are now over 40 papers and books I scanned that deal with history of markup. Enjoy!
