Dear CSO, when your article starts off with "there's a shortage of IT/SEC people" I disregard the rest of what you have to say as more bullshit. https://www.csoonline.com/article/4033022/how-not-to-hire-a-north-korean-it-spy-3.html
Is it bad that I kinda am hoping that Dean Cain ends up catching some lead in a blue on blue fire fight?
QUANTUM LEAP SPEC SCRIPT PITCH:
⸻
Title: “Fear and Leaping in Las Vegas”
Teaser / Cold Open:
Date: April 25, 1971
Location: Las Vegas, Nevada
Body Sam Leaps Into: HUNTER S. THOMPSON
Sam leaps into a garish hotel suite, blinking at the haze of cigarette smoke, the blare of a television, and the smell of bourbon. Across from him sits a dazed, half-naked Dr. Gonzo, babbling about bats. Sam turns toward a mirror… and sees the wild-eyed visage of Hunter S. Thompson staring back at him—cigarette holder, aviators, and all.
SAM:
“Oh boy…”
⸻
ACT ONE:
Mission Brief from Al (via Ziggy):
Ziggy believes Sam is here to prevent a young Rolling Stone photographer from overdosing and dying—an event that derailed Thompson’s coverage of the Mint 400 and nearly got him banned from journalism entirely.
Sam has 72 hours to keep the young man alive, sober enough to shoot the race, and out of the hands of some very shady Vegas enforcers.
Complication:
The real Hunter was not exactly… sober. Sam must navigate the haze of drugs, hallucinations, and Thompson’s erratic behavior—all while trying to maintain his cover and not get arrested, shot, or institutionalized.
⸻
ACT TWO:
Subplot:
Al warns Sam that Thompson’s drug use was legendary, and if Sam doesn’t fake enough of the Gonzo persona, people—including hotel security, the DEA, and his editor—will notice something’s off. Sam struggles to act insane enough to pass as sane in the bizarre Las Vegas backdrop.
Character Conflict:
Sam, a man of science and ethics, is horrified by the chaos around him. But he realizes that playing the part may be necessary to keep the people around him safe.
Meanwhile, Dr. Gonzo suspects Sam isn’t really Hunter and threatens to kill him unless he proves it by taking “the Samoan test” (a fake tribal ritual involving tequila and a motorcycle ride through the desert).
⸻
ACT THREE:
Sam manages to redirect the young photographer from a drug-fueled breakdown by connecting with him emotionally, convincing him that Thompson’s “madness” was often performance—and that truth can still be found in the fog of distortion.
But when Vegas goons come to collect on Thompson’s debt, Sam has to think fast, escape a high-speed chase through the Strip in a red Chevy convertible, and bluff his way through an interview with a federal agent by channeling his inner Gonzo.
⸻
ACT FOUR:
Everything comes to a head at the Mint 400.
Sam gets the photographer to the event, keeps him from overdosing, and improvises a wild stunt—channeling Thompson’s real-world antics—to draw media attention away from the photographer’s drugged-out mishap and frame it as a Gonzo art piece.
⸻
ENDING:
The photographer lives, goes on to shoot iconic anti-war imagery in the 1970s, and eventually cites Thompson as his chaotic but necessary inspiration.
Sam stumbles back into the hotel room, bruised, rumpled, and baffled, still holding a half-eaten grapefruit.
AL:
“Well, Ziggy says you’ve got about 15 minutes before Thompson’s supposed to hurl a grapefruit at a congressman. You ready?”
SAM:
“Dear God, no.”
Sam leaps…
⸻
Possible Leap Tease:
Sam leaps into a black leather jacket, a stethoscope around his neck, and finds himself facing a snarling pit bull in a South Bronx animal clinic.
SAM:
“Oh boy.”

Would you like a full script scene, or want to develop this into a series of beats with act structure and dialogue samples?
So, watching Quantum Leap over again and in episode one Sam is remembering his past and mentions a relative named Jim Bonnick who lived in Hawaii.
No fucking way.
This, would likely have been how they wanted to do the Magnum PI, Quantum Leap crossover that was proposed! Dan would have leapt into Jim or maybe even Magnum…

We are a profoundly stupid species.
