#SciArtSeptember Day 6: Growth.

This is an ongoing visual experiment. I'm trying to "grow" paint blobs into Voronoi shapes by pressing them between two sheets of plastic or glass. I haven't pulled it off yet, (and don't pay attention the color palette), but it could work.

Several drops of badly mixed paint over a sheet of plastic on a wooden table. The drops are close together. They're pink, blue, yellow and purple, because I had those colours for some other project. A second sheet of plastic over the drops, pressing them slightly so they expand, colliding between themselves and creating some straight and curved lines. More pressure applied, the colours take more area and the lines between them start to mix and become fuzzy. Also the badlye mixed pigments start to show. The result is pretty bad for what I wanted, but it kind of ressembles cells forming tissue, which was the point.

A cicada exuvia, which is an exoskeleton and fully belongs on Day 5.

Full disclosure: I already posted it on my previous instance, but I really like this picture.

Photo of a cicada exuvia (the exoskeleton they leave behind after emerging from the ground and morph into their winged form). It is centered, symmetrical and attached to the bark of a tree. The hole on it's back, where the adult cicada came out, opens a view to the inside of the mold.

Another dubious entry for #SciArtSeptember Day 1: Fluid

Water drew this irregular yellow squares. I think photographing natural processes, to bring attention to them, can be #SciArt

What happened here is that everything was covered in pollen, then it rained and watter puddles formed in the slightly concave tiles. The floating pollen in the puddles was slowly deposited on the tiles as water evaporated, registering the movement of the fluid.

Photo of orange square ceramic tiles, creating a centered grid on the image. On top of each tile, a few centimeters in and aligned with the borders, there are rough yellow lines, aprox 1 cm wide, forming organic looking squares, some more irregular than others. That's what's made of pollen.

It's brass in its liquid form, being used in my old metal casting class, to make the little brass sculpture on my profile pic. Also, as that sculpture is a cast of wood tunneled by xylophagous insects, I consider it #SciArt , but a photo of liquid metal isn't 🤔🤔
