A very large, dark brown/black eagle with a distinctive diamond shaped (wedged) tail, flying high overhead in a cloudless blue sky. A juvenile Crimson Rosella in a tree. The adult version is mostly red and blue, but the juvenile parrot still has a fair bit of green on the chest, wings and patches on its head. A tiny grey and green finch with red beak, bum, and brow, perched on some green coloured metal struts on an arbour. A tiny black and blue fairy wren on the grass. its long tail is a dark blue and sticking up in the air. Its head and neck are a bright blue, with black bandit stripe, black neck and black neck stripe. The belly is an off-white.

A small honeyeater in shades of brown, with a black head and yellow face. A broken off branch, that has a large hollow in the bottom, now full of Little Corella (there's another one below it inside the hollow that you cannot see). An olive coloured bird with black head and white cheeks, and a crest of black feathers, photographed from a low angle looking up at it. Looking at the back of a Spotted Dove. It's a brown dove with a black back of neck that is spotted with white dots.

Good haul of birds this morning on a walk down by Toongabbie Creek.

The Red-whiskered Bulbul is an introduced species, and extremely flighty (got one mostly in focus shot before it moved on).

A small kingfisher on a branch. It has a buff breast and belly, white collar, acqua head and wings, a little orange just above the beak. A male Superb Fairywren on a small branch. It has its tail up and head turned to the left of frame. Its head is black with light blue cap, cheeks and neck stripe. Its throat is covered in what usually look like black feathers, but in the sun you can see they refract blue. Belly is white and wings brown. Tail is blue as well. An immature Crimson Rosella with its back to the camera and head turned to the right of frame. It is mostly crimson in colour but the wings are patterned in black scalloped green and blue feathers. The tail is dusty blue and its cheeks are also blue. The adult colouring drops the greens and the blues become more vivid. A distant Red-Whiskered Bulbul in a bush. It has brown wings and tail on a white body. The head though is black capped with a black crest. It has a red patch by the eye.

Rainbow Lorikeets being their usual noisy selves while feeding on some eucalyptus flowers.

A small green. yellow and red parrot with a blue head in a eucalyptus tree with pink flowers. It is leaning forward, beak open (calling) over a flower. A small green winged yellow necked, red chested and blue headed parrot with its red beak open calling. A Rainbow Lorikeet perched above some pink flowers, wings flapping showing the colourful underside. The head and belly are blue, chest and underwing (at the base) red, yellow underwing near the tip, green back and a paler green-yellow neck. A Rainbow lorikeet perched at a spray of pink eucalyptus flowers. Its green back and tail is almost the same colour as the foliage, but its rich blue head and red chest make it more visible.

An adult male Eastern Water Dragon perched on a concrete wall. Part basking, part occupying his territory. This photo shows the front half of the lizard, head tilted up to better display his throat colouring, which has faded a bit since breeding season. He's a green-grey colour with yellow-lined black patches. His back has wide black patches and short grey spikes, to give the impression of larger spikes than he really has. Two Rainbow Bee Eaters perched on a stick. They are looking intently in opposite directions, searching for flying insects which they'll hunt. There's a dirt embankment behind them (where they have a nesting hole). Two Little Corellas (medium sized white cockatoos with yellow underwings), facing each other. The left one is meekly sitting on the branch, the right one has its beak open and wings spread wide. Two Little Corellas at the top of a palm tree. One is perched on a palm leaf stem (devoid of actual leaves) and has turned hits head upwards to angrily screech at another corella passing close overhead. This is his palm stalk, thank you very much.

'tis the night before Christmas, and there's a chorus of frogs outside as my eyelids droop. I guess it might be time to head to bed.

A tiny Eastern Dwarf Tree Frog with a Santa Hat photoshopped on to its head, sitting on a single curving reed leaf. In the upper left corner are the words Merry Christmas in a blackletter type font, but red in colour.
