Thereβs something so wholesome about IRL connection with people.
Of course, it helped there's a safe space to talk about what we are passionate about over good coffee, delectable cream puffs, and some very nice bubble tea
Amazing presentation and transparent conversation with devs, designers, gaming & startup founders, BC + AI Ecosystem friends, and the incomparable Chris Trottier @atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org πͺ

The difference between Big Social (walled garden) vs. Fedi Garden (open web/Fedi) is about who's in charge.
In a walled garden (like big social platforms), one company owns the whole place. This means
1. You don't own your data. Your photos, your words, your ideas are used to make money for them
2. The rules can change at any time. The company decides what's right and what's wrong, & they can change the rules overnight
3. You feel like you're just a visitor. You're there to scroll, not to build
In the Fedi Garden, we have a different way of doing things. Here's what we believe
1. You own your data. Your content belongs to you. No one can track you or sell your info
2. The communities set the rules. Each small garden (or server) has its own rules, so you can find a community that feels safe & right for you
3. You're a co-creator. You're not just a user, you're a builder. You help create the culture & space

Cheeky no sex sign at β€οΈ museum
1. A humorous take on museum rules, expressing frustration about restrictions on personal expression in cultural spaces.
2. A playful comment on museum policies, highlighting the boredom and desire for more freedom in cultural experiences.
3. A lighthearted critique of museum regulations, questioning how to engage with art without personal expression.

Went to grandmaβs family-only viewing last night. She will be flown to Manila for her final resting place beside my grandfather who passed (peacefully in his sleep) a long time ago.
This week, tennis friend Mike died unexpectedly! Was supposed to practice with him this summer π₯²
The mesage I takeaway from this is:
+ make sure youβre actually living
+ be with people you love and enjoy being with
+ tell them what they mean to you while youβre still alive
Yes, I am grieving but also celebrating life
1. hosting a memorial tournament this summer for Michael within πΎ
group
2. cohosting a series of walks at New West Quay with Tech2Step Canada and BC Bereavement Helpline (link follows)

Finding solace and #strength in nature's #beauty is so important during difficult times. As I joyfully celebrate #pride month and step out with my rainbow fan, I'm reminded of a beautiful truth: We're all connected, like one big #community supporting each other.
This profound feeling of #interconnectedness feels especially meaningful this week, after the recent passing of my dear grandmother.
Ditch the Algorithm Drama: Level Up Your Social Life on the Fediverse! π
1of5
Tired of endless scrolling through toxic feeds dictated by who-knows-what algorithm? As a queer, BIPOC mental health advocate, I get it. That's why I'm buzzing about the #fediverse i.e. the decentralized #SocialWeb that puts YOU back in control. For young adults craving authentic connection and a healthier online vibe, it's time to explore alternatives to mainstream social media.
So, why should you, as a growing adult, make the leap to the Fediverse and platforms like Mastodon?
1. Escape the Noise & AI Overload: Imagine a social space free from constant bombardment by AI-generated fluff and algorithm-driven content that often leaves you feeling drained. The Fediverse offers a refreshing escape where you choose the communities, filling your feed with what you care about, not just what an algorithm thinks will keep you glued to your screen. Say hello to genuine conversations and goodbye to the endless scroll of "AI slop"!
βBeing gay is like being left-handedβsome people are, most people arenβt, and nobody really knows exactly why. Itβs not right or wrong; itβs just one of the many natural ways to be. The world works best when everyone gets to live as they truly are. So if you ever feel out of place, remember: you're not broken, you're just beautifully differentβand thatβs something the world needs.β
