As someone who has lived in Washington, DC for the last 20 years – the city, not Virginia, not Maryland, the actual District of Columbia – I can report that yes, crime is in fact out of control.

The perp appears to be holed up inside a large house at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW.
