(To be clear, she called him her best friend, IN the book, about the need to protect women in sport from trans people, who are definitely sexual predators. Even if I give her the benefit of the doubt and say she had no idea her swim coach was raping her teammates at the time she WROTE IT, you certainly knew before you PUBLISHED it you vile little creature.)

Anyway, I have some thoughts about the Sweeney American Eagle ad I feel obligated to share, because the discourse surrounding this is pretty shameful and seems to be being lead by white people as a sort of political football match.

Ready? The ad knew exactly what it was doing, it is definitely racist nazi shit, and the fact that we're focused on Libs of Tik Tok trying to manufacture a controversy out of it instead of the part where the ad really was nazi shit is fucking shameful.

So part of preparing to go back to work is doing a short review of all the absolutely unhinged fascist propaganda I was purposely ignoring; not because I really care about shit like Sidney Sweeney, or Riley Gaines (who published a book, ostensibly about protecting women in sport, AFTER the swim coach she called her "best friend" was fired for rapey shit... no, really) but because I need to know what totally made up bullshit the nazis are referring to when they build their mythos rhetorically.

The closest thing you can get to an anti-war position among the fash, is that some of them are still clinging onto the idea that they oppose sending US troops to foreign shores. But given that they support bombings and missile strikes that are acts of war, and if anyone EVER punched us back in the mouth they would bay for blood - that position is nonsensical. (See: Gabbard, Tulsi for how this plays out when people interrogate the idea - she's finished in anti-imperialist circles.)

tl;dr

Trump, Trumpism, and Trump cultists were never against war; they were against losing wars, and they believe we only lose wars because politicians will not "unleash" the troops to do war crimes.

The problem wasn't the invasions and occupations, it's that you, the most powerful military in the world, could not defeat this brown, Islamic, lesser thing. They have created a "stabbing in the back" myth about it. Trump is their instrument of vengeance so they LOVE him bombing brown people.

They, the fascist base, were never against the War on Terror. Spencer Ackerman makes this point brilliantly in his book Reign of Terror, which I strongly recommend you read, but he nails the MAGA "anti-war" zeitgeist perfectly.

No I mean the thing is fascists know they're voting for and supporting fascism. They might not be willing to say it out loud, but they know it (again, I was raised by a guy who would ABSOLUTELY be a Trumpbot today).

The difference between flailing, panicked, travshammockery Trump, and "literally Hitler" Trump is truly that 10% of the adult population who tells you things like "I voted for Trump because he gets pussy" and "he's a smart billionaire who will run the country like a business" etc

AnarchoNinaWrites
@AnarchoNinaWrites@jorts.horse

(The "voting age" part here is less about voting, and more about the fact that America hates its own children enough that young people have a noticeably suppressed effect on American discourse and political activity. It's not about elections; it's about the fact that if you're going to use the military to occupy your own country and make yourself God Emperor, you kinda need a certain percentage of the ppl to think that's a good idea and not fight it. History says it's about 40.)

Look, it's pretty simple: I have been studying this for a very long time, and I would put the percentage of American voting age adults who are fascist to the point that they will happily support an artless fascist and join his cult of personality at somewhere between 30 and 33 percent. That's not number out of my butt, but tell you how you derive it is not relevant to the story.

So pull out a poll - is he in the mid to low 30's? Then Trumpism is losing. Is he in the 40's? Start building bunkers

AnarchoNinaWrites
@AnarchoNinaWrites@jorts.horse

Should you be concerned that the on off switch for the full Hitler is the dumbest 10 percent of the American voting aged population? Yeah, probably. Those folks are after all why he's president right now.

But in the here and now, his baseline support looks almost identical to "baseline support of fascism in America."

He will never be weaker than this. But it also means the project is NOT moving forward.
